Perspective? No, that's the reality of modding. Only a few people I know who've modded/created custom content extensively haven't become reclusive, chronically depressed assholes with a hardon for masochism.

Marco wrote: I played the least out of all of you.  Many of you hate the game, therefore the person who plays the least wins.  I WIN!  While getting a beta key from the campaign contest was nice, I guess using it as an incentive was just an excuse to get back out there and create something again, since I really didn't revel in the fruits of my labor.

Whew, I really am a different person than I was 12 years ago.  Age sure has taken away my passion for playing the game, but not really for writing content for it.  Seems my focus has shifted almost entirely to the creativity spectrum.  Hopefully that won't be too detrimental when the time comes to make my campaign.  There's still a few games out there I indulge in, but usually only for an hour or two at a time.  Gone are the days when I plow through games with a passion.  Hopefully that'll end up being the key to creating my most ambitious project.

From the times I did play though, I did have lots of fun.  There's definitely a 'been there done that' feeling though.  Maybe it's why I feel that the creativity avenue is the way to go.  Cheers.
I got a beta key and didn't play once.

That's actually more to do with the kind of personality it takes to get into modding.  One with excessive time due to a lack of social obligations tends to find unusual things to do with ones time.  Many artists are like this too.  The best people in their fields are also like this, usually, unless naturally talented.  You don't get to be the best by going to clubs and drinking your ass off, or spending all your time hanging out with friends.  At least, not from what I've seen.

With or without modding, those personality types would end up depressed anyway, due to the desires to, in some ways, be like everyone else they see.

Modding is an artistic venture and it invariably serves as a channel through which modders express more than the surface value of the content. Note here my definition of art is a variation of the one articulated by Ayn Rand: "Art is a dimension of an artifact, through which a creator expresses its understanding of reality."

There is no sense in providing a privileged class for theatre, canvas painting, or film (as one wretched, ancient warlock would have) while leaving games and modding to scavenge the streets or face the gallows. Nearly anything we produce intentionally is art, to say nothing of quality or purpose.

Also, Duncan MacChaos wins. There can only be one!

You can only claim you've won if you achieve victory as the Phantom in BGH with a full inhouse over vent. Truly a match of wits and bra-well more like simple math but the bluffing and yelling and random killing is very excellent.

Which reminds me I haven't done that with CC yet, you guys are next once the beta comes back.

Yeah, quite willing to take part of such game even if I know that somehow someone will twist it into killing me as the first targets. :p

I win. This time around I played the game on a competitive level instead of fooling around with ums maps and money maps!
