LotC Teaser Video Released

As far as cinematics go, this has come a long, long way. The battle platform has never looked so sexy, even if we don't see quite the whole thing in all its glory.  I was also amused with the Zergling being treated like a rat, complete with 'pellet'.   I assume this is Joel's handiwork.

Negative on Joel; while he was potentially interested in carving out some graphics for this project, he felt the time required to produce quality work in this day and age against the teams of artists and millions of dollars now used by Blizzard would not be commensurate with the return.

SgtHK (from Sons of War) did the graphics and animation work on the teaser for LotC.  He has returned to SoW full time however and the company Freespace Films will be picking up where he left off.  There are four cinematics planned for the campaign's 3 episodes.

Outstanding quality in terms of the actual animation, although you should release another version at a higher resolution.  Gone are the days when we need to minimalize things like this for people with modems.  I was wondering what was up with the size (16mb), but the compression works out decently.  You should also just have the logo redone for the Confederation.  Looks like you are still using that same image Joel made up a long time ago.  While the artwork on it is good, the size he made it for at the time isn't consistent with what is needed for an actual texture.  I notice that logo also being used elsewhere so I'm sure it'd be beneficial to upgrade it.

Hey Des!

I took your advice and put a higher res version out on the airwaves.  It should be able to go fullscreen on most systems without quality loss (and the sound isn't compressed really either so that sounds much better too).

Joel's a busy man you know.  I'm more interested in having him work on some of the music scores for LotC than on revamping graphics since he'd really only have time for one or the other.

A discussion on codecs and compression?

Use the VfW version of x264 for encoding videos. incredible quality with an icredibly small file size (3 times less than that of XviD using the exact same settings and software). The only downside is the large amount of time needed to encode and the fact that the only way I know of installing it is through K-lite codec pack.

accessibility is horrible with regards to installing the encoder. However, all someone needs to view the video (AKA decode) is a codec pack like CCCP or a media player like VLC. In fact, I think windows media player on vista can render the video without any codecs.

Nicely done. Well-paced, good scripting, logical dialogue, satisfying cannon fire and explosion. Though, the Commander's voice was a little weird and forced, making it offsetting and breaking some of my suspension of disbelief. A couple lines from the female dropship pilot and other male scavanger didn't quite work in their delivery, but most did. I like the homage to Brood War's opening cinematic on the Battlecruiser.

Lol at the people on YouTube complaining about sound in space. I wonder, though, what if you were in a nebula?
