IGN Interviews Blizzard COO Paul Sams

Post by Lavarinth »

http://pc.ign.com/articles/728/728706p1.html
With World of Warcraft well covered and with our time with Sams coming to an end, we asked him what we can expect out of Blizzard in the future, and were specifically inquisitive about the possibility of StarCraft 2.

"StarCraft is my absolutely favorite game of all time," Sams told us. "As you probably already know, there is no doubt that we will continue the StarCraft and Diablo franchise, and trust me, I will be the happiest person in the world when we announce StarCraft 2."
While Sams wasn't ready to spill the beans just yet, he did say Blizzard "will have a major product announcement in 2007," and that Blizzard was currently working on at least three other unannounced titles at the moment.

In terms of what these games could be, we asked if they would fall in line with the major success Blizzard has had with World of Warcraft. "I want to be clear that we're not just content to be an MMO company," Sams explained. "Some other companies get into the role of making just MMOs, but Blizzard lets the developers pick what they want to work on, and it's not all MMOs."
Now people can finally silence others claiming Blizzard will be making a Diablo and StarCraft MMO. I want to know why someone would make such accusations when a StarCraft MMO franchise would immediatly demolish WoW or Diablo MMO. So, besides a movie, the WoW expansion, and putting aside SC:G, there is one major (probably current-franchise) project either Diablo or StarCraft, and three additional projects. Estimated cancellations: 2. Hah. With the 10 year anniversary coming up soon in 2008, is it really any surprise that this may be StarCraft 2 announced in 2007 with a projected release date of 2008?

Actually, there is one major currently franchised porject, and two others. I'm willing to bet one's Diablo, one's Starcraft, and the other is an entirely new franchise.

As all evidence in the past pointed out, even more is now paved.  The game is clearly being developed right now, prepare for it.

I cant wait till they make a StarCraft 2, I am hooked on StarCraft right now with my campaign, and I have been wanting to see what happens to the Hybrids in the making. And I hate hearing people say stuff like StarCraft: Ghost was the SC:2 and they wont make SC2 anymore.

Yeah, I wonder what they did with the SC: Ghost stuff... perhaps they'll just incorporate it into SC2 or release it just as a book, or make a movie out of it.

Well usually to make a movie out of a game, like they are doing with WarCraft soon, and like Resident Evil or such, the game has to be popular, since they never realeased StarCraft Ghost I doubt they would make it a movie. They could do a StarCraft movie since its really popular and same with Diablo, but with games that are not popular, not realeased or cancelled then no they wont make a movie about it.

Ok- You realize movies are based on lore, not specific games, right? No, you don't... They aren't doing a movie that's reenacting WC1, 2, or 3. If they make an SC movie as well, it's not going to be the entire campaign. It's something seperate. Look at Final Fantasy. Their first movie wasn't at all related to the series. The first Resident Evil wasn't either, neither was the second, it just had familiar faces. *Shakes head.* Seriously.

Well I didnt mean the series, I know they are not creating WC1 - WC3 and more same with StarCraft im just saying if the game is popular, or realeased and not canceled like SC: G they wouldnt make a movie on it. Thats what I am guessin.

They don't make movies on games, they make them on franchises. That's what I am not guessing, but know. Doesn't matter if SC:G was released, cancelled, won an Emmy somehow, there would be no movie on it. There would be a movie on the universe of SC.

Yeah, I wish AVP contained the key things from the computer game series. Like marines.
