Remastered SC2 SFX

A part of my massive UDK project I am pooling tons of resources into ripping and remastering sound effects from many sources. While we all have our gripes with sc2's voice acting, the actual effects are pretty damn good.

Unfortunately many effects are balls-deep in cinematic sequences, mixed with music and voices like lazy Blizzard who couldn't do it the more efficient way of per-event sounds. *sigh*

Anyways, that's where I come in. As I remaster stuff and rip it I'll post some of it here for you.

Hah, this is where I guess we will disagree, for I think SC1 had faaaaaaaaar superior SFX. Not necesarily in definition or originalty, but nearch every sfx was like fucking unique, and you could tell a battle between a zealot and a draggon vs a siege tank and a vulture without looking at the screen at all. There was quite a lot of aural identity that slowly began to fade since Diablo 2, and was like totally gone by tft. Diablo 1 had excellent sound too.

In particular I don't think the new tank sound does any justice to the original "SHUMF".

SC2's Tank mode cannon sound is decent, but the Siege Cannon is like pffft, Arclite > Crucio.

Alevice> Well, I'm mostly referring to cinematic stuff. The dropship's engine whirr in the armory, stuff like that.

I'd say about half of the ingame sounds are okay. I actually think the siege tank's sounds are "decent". Not ideal, but remember the game is destroying a lot of their umf and fidelity by reducing their volume significantly. The actual sound files are ok.

They aren't sc1 but they might be useful to someone.

I use it for my Windows sound theme, so when I minimize a window...SHUMF.

My instant messaging program and Windows profile both use SC1 sounds.

Fucking love SC1 effects.

Greatest disappointment in SC2:

*Selects Hydralisk, orders it to attack something.*
"whiff whiff whiff"

Yeah Hydralisk was the worst chnage. It seems the developers when with it because thefandumb thought the hydralisk spat goo, rather than using hydraulics to propel his spine attacks.

I just forget the Zerg have sounds because I never even hear them half the time. The Zerg are beyond terrible.

I actually like the whole goo sound, but they went too far with it and made everything sound the same. The fun thing about the SC1 Zerg sounds was that they all sounded slimy and alien, yet still very distinct.

The word you're looking for is "character". SC2's zerg have no distinction or character, they're all generic and run of the mill squishy sounds without the slightest bit of thought put into them. lol @ ultralisk attack sounds

Thankfully this effects me way less, since I haven't played SC1 with feedback from units in years, and having it was sort of jarring so I turned it off for SC2 also. I rode the music for the single player game, but in multiplayer the only things I hear are my own music and explosions.

i was really hopeing they would change the hydralisk attack animation/sound in some way....

i think if it was a sort of high pitch blow dart sound, or that sound you hear from arrows being shot from a bow, it would sound better.
