I Win!

I played the least out of all of you.  Many of you hate the game, therefore the person who plays the least wins.  I WIN!  While getting a beta key from the campaign contest was nice, I guess using it as an incentive was just an excuse to get back out there and create something again, since I really didn't revel in the fruits of my labor.

Whew, I really am a different person than I was 12 years ago.  Age sure has taken away my passion for playing the game, but not really for writing content for it.  Seems my focus has shifted almost entirely to the creativity spectrum.  Hopefully that won't be too detrimental when the time comes to make my campaign.  There's still a few games out there I indulge in, but usually only for an hour or two at a time.  Gone are the days when I plow through games with a passion.  Hopefully that'll end up being the key to creating my most ambitious project.

From the times I did play though, I did have lots of fun.  There's definitely a 'been there done that' feeling though.  Maybe it's why I feel that the creativity avenue is the way to go.  Cheers.

This.  I'm looking for motivation of equal caliber to give me a morale boost, but it just isn't coming.  That last contest gave me a surge of incentive that I just can't seem to harness naturally.

I'm on the same boat. I hardly have any interest on multiplayer as of now - in BW I used to play multiplayer quite often - but the desire to create new content sure is thrilling.

As a matter of fact, I doubt I'm even going to touch multiplayer, unless it ends up being nearly as good as BW (I doubt it, at least before the first expansion comes along) or if some really cool UMS multiplayer maps show up.

I had a bit of interest in multiplayer but it died out a week in when I realized how shallow the game is and how terrible the unit design is.

I can't say I didn't want to make some kind of project but I decided to drop sc2 as a whole and move back to age of wonders 2 for that.

Some call it willpower.  There's always some of that within to be harnessed.  You might be seeking something much more powerful though.  Willpower which cannot be deterred by any source is called purpose.  It's what all those animes you watch try to teach you.  ;)

Purpose, I define it as the ability to act without fail, using all your strength.  I'd like to be able to give you such a gift, but it's largely up to you. You might find something eventually though if you keep looking.

A Mac boy eh?  Boys, get the rope!

According to my own experiences, the longer you work on a really serious project (campaign project, in that very case) the more you soaked up everything from the game experience itself. This process can be good or bad, in any way you change your feeling to the game forever...

Best example for this: After creating a 28 level campaign, you have seen SC naked, from each direction. From that point on the wish to play the game again, although the storyline and gameplay is so beautyful, is no longer present...

yeah, although i wouldn't play sc2 on my mac any more than i do on my pc. i'm not a big multiplayer guy and i suck masterfully at strategy games anyway.

i loved sc for its story and i played it because the triggers made it playable for someone like me.

A more accurate comparison would be to say "You have had sex with StarCraft, and had a tender and insightful discussion while cuddling afterward."

MJS, I think his point was that after making long campaigns it destroys his love for the game.  I just call it burnout though.  Take anything to the extreme and you'll wear out its novelty eventually.  In moderation however, you'll find a long love affair ahead of you.

Perhaps. Regardless, I was referring to the understanding that comes from modding.

With regards to burning out, the temper of one's passion leads either to a pyrotechnic frenzy, brief and orgiastic in its activity, or a burning ember which may endure a longer and more intimate affair.

Or it destroys you wholly and utterly, leaving you with nothing but a shade of what you once were years long past, crumpled in a broken ruin at the steppes of despair between the planes of absolution and infinity with no will or energy to move in either direction.

Welcome to custom content!

Indeed, it was a great metaphor.  As was your latest.  As was yours Mesk, when applied to your perspective of things.
