Who the heck honestly wants to play against the computer, anyway?

The desperate people who want to taste SC2 no matter the cost? The people who want to fiddle with the units? I don't know?

With the Infestor, I built a Nexus and Command Center in a test game to see how certain aspects of the races overlapped.

  • The Terran AI continues to build the CC even when no longer parasited.

  • Only Terran units can enter a Bunker. Hm, forgot to try the Nydus Network.

  • Repair works on Protoss mechanical units and buildings.

  • Medivac healing can be used on all biologicals, including Mutalisks and Roaches. Crap, didn't test Zerg buildings. I'm not sure if they're listed as biological, though.

  • Like SC1, the type of gas container a worker holds depends on which race built on the geyser. An SCV coming out of an Assimilator looks like he's holding a green jello cube.

  • Unlike SC1, supply is shared. You do not get separate supply per race.

  • Chrono Boost can still be cast on your non-Protoss buildings.

  • Mass Recall will move sieged Siege Tanks and burrowed Zerg.

What does a range of 5 really mean? I theorized that it might correspond to the same grid system seen when placing buildings. First, my basic comparison setup:

Image

Each unit is attacking a rapidly regenerating burrowed Roach. First in line is another Roach with a range of 3. Behind him is a Hydralisk at a range of 5. The Viking has a range of 6, the Void Ray 7, and the Carrier 8. To test my hypothesis, the next test used a line of Creep Tumors, which take up one grid and can be walked over.

Image

As we can see, there are roughly three Tumors between the target and the Roach/Queen. The Queen, who also has a range of 3 like the Roach, was brought in to compare what difference unit size makes. The Hydralisk is five Tumors away; so on and so forth. It would appear my hunch is correct; if not exact, it is pretty darn close. The discrepancies are likely due to not knowing where the exact beginning and end of the measurement is made, be it from the center of the target to the weapon hardpoint of the attacker, or its collision box, or whatever.

Image

If we measure the pixels of one grid, we can draw up some comparisons to SC1.

There's an option to enable grids in build mode, could be useful.

Bonus Damage Chart

SC1 Zerg
Sunken Colony 20+20 large

Devourer 12.5+12.5 large
Infested Terran 250+250 large

Corsair 2.5+2.5 large
Arbiter 5+5 large

-
-

SC1 Terran
Firebat 2+6*2 small
Ghost 2.5+7.5 small
Vulture 5+15 small
Siege Tank (T Mode) 15+15 large
Siege Tank (S Mode) 35+35 large
Goliath (Air) 5+5*2 large
Wraith (Air) 10+10 large
Valkyrie 3+3*6 large
Missile Turret 10+10 large
Spider Mine 62.5+62.5 large
Yamato Gun 130+130 large
Nuclear Missile 300+300 large

SC1 Medium Units
Being so few, it is easy to list them all here. To avoid clutter, I did not include the bonus damage against medium on the main chart, but figuring it out is simple. For explosive damage, which is near every unit on the chart, add half of the base damage. For concussive damage, which is all of three units (Firebat, Ghost, Vulture), add the base damage (or multiply by two).

  • Vulture
  • Corsair
  • Hydralisk
  • Lurker

  • Queen
  • Defiler

  • Zerg Egg
  • Lurker Egg

Really? Are you sure? Cause I remember reading in an interview from a little while back that roach regen and medivac don't stack. I could be wrong, though. I just remember that Blizz mentioned that particular case at some point.

I think that was at the point when they had the rapid regen all the time, without needing burrow or upgrades. Not sure how they would implement that anyway. Would the Medivac waste its energy on the Roach anyway in that case?

From what I understand, the medivac healing and roach regen were supposed to both be effects that apply to units. So the roach would permanently have that effect on it and the medivac spell would just give it to units as long as it was stilling casting. Since they were the same effect, they wouldn't stack. But I think they just made the medivac heal now with no middle-man effect. It most likely wouldn't have wasted its energy because the roach would have already been receiving the effect and thus leaving no point in giving it again.

Roach regen only occurs when burrowed, and the regen is so fast a medivac stack wouldn't matter.

Yep, I'm definately sure. I had read that same interview, which is why I tested it and specifically mentioned the Roaches.

  • Medivac healing even works on burrowed Roaches, adding to their already insane regen rate (especially after the regen upgrade).

  • Zerg buildings are in fact listed as Biological, but attemping to use Medivac healing on them gives an error message: "Cannot target structures."

  • Queen's Transfusion works on any biological unit.

  • The Nydus Network accepts any ground unit of any race.

During February, I had to leave Japan and was in the US when SC2 Beta began. I am now back in Japan. What differences await me on the Asian realm?

To start, there is a new pink capital A to the right of any active text field, which varies in scale depending on the size of the text field. I would wager this is for shifting character sets, such as with Japanese Romaji, Hirogana, and Katakana.

At first, my fiends list was the same as when I left America. Apparently, though, there has been a system reset recently, which wiped everyone's CID.ID friends list but left their Real ID friends intact. When I logged in after that, I had to recreate my CID.ID username. When I tried adding people I used to have, I got an error that they couldn't be found. My guess is that realms maintain separate CID.ID databases.

I am now waiting on one of my Real ID friends to sign in so I can test what will happen if we try to start a game together.

Hey guys,

This indicator is currently using placeholder art, which is why it is showing as bright magenta. This indicator appears when the user has IME installed for their OS. If you wish to make the indicator disappear you will need to uninstall IME.

Here is a link for some information on IME's:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/downloads/recommended/ime/default.mspx

Thank you for the reports!

Of course its built into the newer windows I think, mine and mesk's has it I believe.
