Eh. As I said, I felt like doing it, so I did. I don't know anything about DOA at all, I've never played the game nor do I know anything about the modding - only how shitty NWN2 is.

Once again instead of just getting rid of useless identifiers they are switching back the old system except its a randomly generated 3 digit code

http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25399622869&pageNo=1#11

There will definitely be "chat channels" coming in one of the patches after the release. The system will be based around groups, where you will be able to join public channels that are based around your interests, which can be virtually anything. Also the system will include private chat channels (in plans for release in the first few months after the release), where you will be able to meet with your friends.

As for identifiers they are returning for the second phase of the beta. The previous system did not work as intended to some degree and based on feedback received the developers decided to implement a variation of this, which is going to attach character codes. These will be three digit numbers added to your nickname and they will be seen in the UI screens. Thanks to this you will be able to add friends manually, just like previously with identifiers. On top of that you can still add friends using all other methods (using the score screen or RealID).

I'll pause with that.

Apparently chat takes a couple months to implement too.

Honestly I feel like Blizzard is more trying to dodge things rather than changing them correctly.

In a way, it feels worse because it kind of kill the uniqueness of IDs then on the bright side, if three "Josh" in a same game (that is recurring), it might be better to see Josh023, Gosh999 and Josh333 rather than the name switches to second IDs (which weren't unique either) to no end.

In specific cases, if you know that the real user is "Esports.251" then it's less complicated than guessing who's the real Esports in a tourney or something more critical.

Although to the very worst, if it allows you to add friends without having to use real ID or Facebook then at least ill be able to tolerate that. Not being able to add internet friends easily is many times more annoying in my book.

As for chat, I am fairly sure they can implement it much more faster but either they prefer to work on other things first or they are trying to make an "epic chat system" that is more likely to fall somehow.

Whoever the fuck is running B.net 2.0 (that xbox live guy) is a fucking moron and shouldn't have ever gotten into the business with these idiotic decisions. It's absolutely baffling how someone so stupid and confused can have so much power in an otherwise reputable company. The excuses are hollow bullshit that are basically smoke screens for "We are lazy fucks". It does not take months to put in chat channels and there was NOTHING WRONG with user names like EVERY OTHER GAME THAT HAS USED THEM. Trying to re-invent the wheel by using a square is like trying to make B.net 2.0 and skirt around all of the necessary features that every other notable service has ever had to provide bullshit for cocksuckers like Facebook.

Blizzard is in full swing to abuse the power of their name. There isn't many people who will question them because LOL IT'S BLIZZARD THEY NEVER SCREW UP

Also, now I'm reading about a PROFESSIONAL version of SC that got announced at some meetings and, lo and behold, includes LAN! And it's for tournaments only. And it's subscription-based. wat

I pity those who wanted to play multiplayer regularly.

Unfortunately, I discovered this recently. Resource hog and it only runs on one core? Great job, assholes. =D

It's running on NWN1's engine. They somehow broke shadows to the point of crippling even top-end hardware. The editor can corrupt maps at the slightest touch and is infinitely more disorganized and confusing than NWN1's. Wait, that sounds like sc2's editor! On the flip side, NWN2's editor supports DLL plugins that can totally rewrite the interface.

So with their current identifier change, at least it will be less painful to add internet friends again.

Since personally, I kind of feared that they would switch to such ID system yet not allow adding internet friends again.

Except they are still selectively hiding the identifiers which is the entire problem with the current and past system.

Yeah, that's a big issue. Although with what Blizzard managed to pull of bad ideas in general, ill settle for that ID system as long you can easily add Internet friends.

Steam. Never had an issue there. Or shoot- Revert back to their own system. All they are trying to do is allow multiple people with the same username- But why?

They're trying to make everyone happy and appear revolutionary when all they are doing is making it a headache.

Quite frankly, that's about the only reason I can see too that they want badly to have some kind of identifier.

Ultimately with the side issues it would cause, I think the only extra thing they could do since they are rather bent toward that method is to allow a player's personal option to show the number identifiers or not on places other your own name (when you see your friend list which also show your name) if there is no player conflict when seeing any name in question.

At this point, it would be the best compromise between those that want to see the identifiers the least possible and those that want to see them to avoid player scams of some kind and such (ex : tourneys of any kind).

Personally, I hate the idea of being called Lavarinth.832 or Lavarinth.103 just because of the CHANCE someone else might have Lavarinth, which is HIGHLY unlikely, come on.

Well considering Blizzard's philosophy lately and the remaining time before any beta time is up, guess maybe their initial ID system (ex : Lavarinth.Lavarinth) was better for them and for their customers overall if they quickly settle for a final decision about it.

Personally I would prefer something else other than numbers (kind of screams "You are just a number") they decided. However,  they managed to make adding Internet friends a living hell with the one before. Thus, I prefer more or less to settle on this one if I was forced to make a choice now. I really don't want any new idea of their that will screw up the friend list part again. I don't expect any turning back on that subject when SC2 will be released.

I still prefer just a plain unique name like they used to but I don't expect it to happen.

They need to fire that xbox live guy. That's the only possible path that can yield good outcome now.

Fetch me a bottle-rocket and I'll have it go off in his ass just for laughs.

On the plus side, they could just have the nickname part unique and maintain the identifier part (i.e. B1ng0_Bob.bingo).
