Fully Rigged Animation Test

Arm Movement:

with Leg. Youtube seem to desaturate and wash out the videos.

Edit: This final one is flat, with the armor specular enabled. You can notice the shadows are in a "cut out" thingy, and no shading on the diffuse.

3 parts (every 1:40 or so)
1. No effects
2. With Glare/Bloom
3. with Glare/Bloom and Virtual Dub's motion Blur

Your thoughts are very much welcome.

Spoiler: show
edit: Here are two styles for the armor. Which one do you like, and if possible, why do you like it?

So far, this is what I've settled with:

In reality I'm jealous with Ghost in the Shell 2, and that Code Hunters video. How they actually make things seem like 2d.

I've tried fall-off mapping. This is common. Though maybe there is more to fall-off than what I know.

Hoping for input/help from you guys.

edit: What troubles most is the "Wax" or "cellophane" or "glass coated" or "spandex" effect generated.

Also, is there a way to fake Global Illumination without using the solutions in max? GI can make rendering time soar it seems.

I'm not a fan of cell shading in the least, personally. But you may want to look into Vray and see if it has materials to your liking.

Doesn't a skylight do global illumination? I don't know what "solutions" are, I think you're delving into stuff hopelessly beyond my skill level (especially since your modeling is leagues better than mine).

Yeah, I have seen it. I think everything google gives on page one.

I'll keep looking and experimenting.

In any case, I've posted two videos on the opening post. I'd appreciate any idea, impressions, thoughts, opinions.

I have a goal set to what style but am quite shaken and unsure when this came up. I'm thinking of blending the two effects, however, the shots may become more noisy than necessary.

I'll look for V-ray. Yeah, skylight and sunlight, these are the "solutions" that I'm referring to. They tend to make my rendering take like 10,000 years to finish.

But I think I'm getting the hang of it. Having found this online paper on lighting helped a lot.

In any case, the project's still open to other styles. I'm very eager though to get the toon/3d hybrid if it were possible.
