[everything] got great story idea but need help with where to start

hello everyone.

I'm new here and just recently started playing around with mods and these great campaigns you all have and i wanted to give it a shot trying to make my own i have a great idea for a storyline but have no clue were to start or anything

Well, I cannot stress enough the importance to fleshing out your storyline and dialogue before you get going on maps. The reason being if you begin with the maps, the funner part obviously, you will continue to try to fit more and more into each maps, requiring each to take months if not longer to complete- And then it'll never truly be complete for you. Storyline is always the best thing to do first.

thanks for the link... i got most of my storyline figured out... just not down on paper ill do that first off i guess. then would the next step be setting up the main char and the other chars? if so i could use some real help on trying to make them have the weapons i want them to have (id tell you about the stroyline but its so good someone may steal it :D) the storyline is the part i enjoy the most... its the making the campaign do what i want it to that will be challanging

Lavvz, story less fun then making the map? BAD Lavvz.

Anyways you don't have to put it on paper if you are a one man project much. You could of course, but communicating with a script like document is neccesary once more then one person gets involved.

alright... well i started writing it out anyways. doing each mission and what the objective is in the missions. the problem i have been having is trying to make my main char with the unit editor. is there a good place for a tutorial for datedit or is there another program you all recommend?

Aaah, we're working on that part... But at least take notes you can design the maps first and trigger them without the need of your unit's abilities until testing.

alright... and do we got a tutorial to help make the complication of triggers easier? im such a noob map maker  ;D

yeah ps if anyone wants to help me out with the work im all for it :D i'v almost got the storyline finished and ill release it when i have compleated it if people wanna find out about it. or if you cant wait to find out what im working on just send me a msg on msn and ill gladly shair... just dont wanna put it up somewhere till its all done and pretty :D

complacated triggers :/ spellcheck did that like i said im a noob with map making. stuff like drop ships moving in and droping off units and stuff like that



by the way where can i get copys of the brood wars missions?

You can extract them from the install.exe I recall, think they are on the CD somewhere.

Using an extractor like MPQ View, extracing the .chk files, and renaming them to either SCM or SCX based on whether it's expansion or not. (SC = SCM, BW = SCX)
