Re: [ROS3, Project T.E.R.] Insurgent Spiderlord & New Field Devastator
LOL. Once again you prove you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
And even if AO wasn't finished, that wouldn't change a single thing. Theft is theft, period.
By that logic, one can just take whatever the fuck he feels like from any project out there, because only 1-2 TC's have actually reached total completion. So, by that logic, you can just freely take anything from any mod for any game, just because "it's not complete". Yeah, okay. You're going to get real far with that.

If you're not using it and never plan to, let someone else use it.

I have to agree with Negi here. I mean, really. That's a dick move if you made it just for yourself and no one else can use it.
Not that I followed this conversation; if it IS actually in a mod you made (and released to the public or plan to soon), than the subject matter is changed.

Uh. Yeah. That's why I released a bunch of stuff from my old mods that aren't available anymore.Negi wrote: If you're not using it and never plan to, let someone else use it.

However, AO is a released and completed project.

It's attitudes like this that make me seriously regret ever making anything I have made public.

Re: [ROS3, Project T.E.R.] Insurgent Spiderlord & New Field Devastator
That's your opinion. There are a few people who have enjoyed both ITAS and AO.
And for the record, it's not a "dick move" to desire having content you have spent countless hours perfecting for your own personal project to remain a part of that project. It is a privilege, not a right, that you are able to experience this work formulated into such an object. Mods, conversions, and campaigns are tremendous undertakings. Not you, or anyone else, is magically entitled to anything contained within that project for any reason. Stealing things from someone else's work is not only an insult to the author of that work but an insult to every artist and developer in the entire world. Plagiarism and theft is looked down upon in all elements of creation and this is no different.
It is common sense and courtesy to ask before you decide to run around ripping things out of people's mods. When I was modding Diablo 2 and I wanted some tiles to work with, I asked the guy who worked on Back to Hellfire if I could use the tiles he had converted from Diablo. He said that No, I could not. I respectfully complied with his wishes. Were they totally original content? No, they're just conversions! But he spent hours of his time into those conversions for his project. I own both Diablo and Diablo 2, but that doesn't entitle me to just take something from his project and slap it into mine and call it a day.
It is each individual author's own decision if they want their own work distributed in someone else's work. I have been constantly denied access to people's content for any number of reasons, and I have always respected those desires. It is ethics and above all, respect. But people like BSTRhino, who went out of their way to provide for the community, inspired me to do things like release that tremendous GRP pack and provide the huge quantity of iscript source code for everything inside AO like I did, along with countless tutorials, guides, sound effects, advice, answers to inquiries, and more. I have helped almost a dozen people start mods of their own through whatever means, some of which have become highly respected and successful, like Laconius.
But in a project with as much work put into it as AO, I want the elements specific to AO to remain with that project. Not only to keep it unique, and to keep the expression fresh and vivid, but so that when I come back in 5 years and try out all of my old work I know that I have something special that I have worked on and that people enjoyed not simply because they saw it as a means to jack new and admittedly very rare and valuable resources from, but because it provided an experience derived of someone who has spent over a decade honing his skills to reach this point where he can say, "Hey, look, I made something new!"
I don't know how there can be room for debate on this subject, but it's gone on long enough. As long as Black_Dream removes the stuff he took from AO, there is no ill will and I will support him in any way I can by finding stuff that he can use, like that effect I linked earlier in the thread before this degraded into such a tremendous shitstorm.

Re: [ROS3, Project T.E.R.] Insurgent Spiderlord & New Field Devastator
I'm of the opinion that if someone gives credit where credit is due, he should be allowed to use whatever pre-made resources he likes. Of course, these dirty koreans didn't credit you, but if they had, I would completely support them.
Now, they didn't credit you, so the point is not up for actual discussion, but surely you can see what I mean, no?
Also, you should fix and finish MFTGATRL. It's pretty much almost done.

Re: [ROS3, Project T.E.R.] Insurgent Spiderlord & New Field Devastator
If he had come to me and asked permission from the beginning I may have been more open to discussion about the subject. His English isn't that bad and he does have a friend who knows English better than he does.
As for MFTGATRL, if I was to ever return to it I would want to redo all of the graphics and make icons and such. I have no plans to do anything like that right now. I'm quite burned out.

That's a lot more reasonable. I thought that you were just against it in principle. Can we be friends again?

Did you remove the effects from AO yet?
