Oh, man. I miss Netscape. It was so much better than all the nonsense browsers we have today. I was ecstatic when I found the old Mozilla browser, which started as Netscape's spiritual successor, but then they abandoned that in favour of their IE-like Firefox browser.IskatuMesk wrote:netscape bestscape

Oh, you're right! my bad, I should've said Opera, that's been around since 1996. Hell, I am using it right now.Hercanic wrote:No, Firefox was released in 2002 and had originally been developed from Netscape, after Microsoft ran Netscape out of business ("We'll cut off their air supply." - Microsoft exec). Netscape Communications made their source code open-source in 1998, essentially giving it over to Mozilla, which was founded by (gasp!) former Netscape employees. It's kind of a sweet tale of revenge, what with how Firefox went on to obliterate IE's marketshare dominance.
Huh, I never knew that. I thought Netscape just vanished and then Firefox came out of nowhere.Hercanic wrote:No, Firefox was released in 2002 and had originally been developed from Netscape, after Microsoft ran Netscape out of business ("We'll cut off their air supply." - Microsoft exec). Also BBS were great, I bet there are still some old ones I used to visit out there now, still active.
