I know this is an off the wall question, but I was curious so I'll just get to it.
What is the purpose of the podcasts you guys make? I am pretty sure only staff members, like IskatuMesk, Lavarinth and Hercanic I guess, can make them, but I wonder if they're just... ya know, blogs of the day or week about the forums? I wasn't really sure when I listened to a few.
First of all, I need Lavarinth to be available. He's been extremely busy for a very long time, so getting our schedules synced up for a podcast has always been tough.
Second of all, I need more than a few subjects to warrant the above effort. With the site re-launch, it felt suitable to do a new recording, which is already done and processed but awaiting some more work on the site to be put up.
Subjects can be troublesome, because most of the major stuff we've already covered. There's not really a lot to talk about these days. Most of the minor stuff I personally could discuss are covered in other avenues of my content. The purpose is rather floaty in my opinion. I often wonder what things I could bring up that would be relevant to CC as a body and not grouped up in my personal content. I have no problems making a solo cast, for example, or a cast with HKS or the like. But the subject matter is always the question. It should be relevant to the subject of custom content creation either on a site-specific or user-specific scale, and be sufficient for at least an hour of actual discussion.
As Lav works more on the site and I get more an idea of what kind of content I will be building for the site (such as if I decide to release some of my assets), I suspect more avenues for discussion related to such content will open up as well.
Okay, I know I don't make these 'podcasts' but I have a weird idea for one later. Hear me out... Say you are going to make another one, why not make it with StarCraft BroodWar's mission briefing room? I know that sounded stupid, but think about it for a second. You don't have to make a map per se, but you can edit the briefing dialog to fit with the podcast and record the briefing room for video. You can add the podcasts in the briefing dialog as sound effects right? Do that and it'll be sort of a video series.
... Okay, I may have elaborated a little too much on that, fair enough but what do you think?
Decent enough idea but it might not work out unless they stumble into a wealth of content to make a bunch of these podcasts with, and since mesk just said most of it was dried up I doubt they'd find enough topics to discuss to make a whole series.
Enkidu, a podcast by definition is "a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or portable media player, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically." It's typically, and nearly always strictly, an audio file alone. While what you're talking about if actually interesting and worth-while as an idea, and thinking of ideas is always great, it just wasn't meant for the platform. Most people treat it as listening material while working on things, or driving, etc.
I do recall something similar to what you're asking for, though... Let me see if I can find. ... Yep, Laconius once made a video much in the manner you speak of for his reflection on Blizzard:
