I haven't seen it yet, but I'm probably going to check it out.  It looks like it'll be interesting, although I am concerned about the "vomitcam".  Done right, I think that the first person perspective could be really cool.  Done wrong the audience loses their lunch and the theatre crew are going to have a fun time cleaning up the mess.

Actually, I thought it was good. I liked the whole shaking camera thing, although I have no idea why the guy's carrying the camera the WHOLE DAMN TIME. Carrying the camera would just slow you down. Also, that camera A:is invincible and B:has infinite battery life. But it was still an intense movie.

I thought it was a fantastic movie. I know most of my friends hated it but I thought it was great.

So I saw this movie, and was kinda pissed off. I thought the idea was really awesome, but I hate the fact that all the viral marketing back story they've developed wasn't used much at all. In case some didn't know, ever since the first trailer with Transformers, there have been a handful of websites that are made explicitly for marketing this film, a bunch of clues were spread out that helped piece together bits and pieces, and it was dissapoiting that this was mostly overlooked in the actual movie. And that's what was kind of a let down, the marketing for this movie was more interesting than the film itself.

The monster looked awesome though.

The "splash" seen at the end is a piece of a satellite, thats one of the few bits of the marketing that actually makes it's way into the movie.

Also, vomitcam sucks ass. :\ Its fancy hollywood, why not make it less vomitcam, they have the technology!

Haven't seen it, but read the first part of War's post and I'd just say Dark Knight has a much more intense viral marketing scheme. I mean, they even put up election posted for Harvey Dent in major cities and invaded comic con with clowns.

If you do see it, go read my post's spoiler, it might clear up stuff, I know a few people who were confused by it.

Saw it too.... I thought it also had too much shaking at points and there's just times when its really out of control. I liked the idea at first but in  seeing it on the movie screen... my expectations weren't exactly fulfilled. I was hoping for more of a horror movie. Instead they gave me a thriller - I thought of the movie as a nice rollercoaster ride.

And oh god! -- that first scene took so long...everybody was just waiting for it to end.

However, the use of the handheld cam the whole time makes it really hard for the movie to make you connect with the relationships.

One other thing I liked and hated about the movie and viral marketing is how it continues into the movie. JJ Abrahms has the philosophy where the audience likes the idea of not knowing everything and the movie brings up some images that make you question it some more. It may work for TV, but for a solo movie such as Cloverfield? Buy the DVD for the answers?!

Also to list outrageous things in the movie.... SPOILER BELOW

The girlfriend lasted a really long time for a person who had a puncture near her collar bone and who soon was able to walk pretty far.
Monster and little monster bits.... Starship Troopers anyone? Zergling rush spawned from a giant hydralisk.

much like a lot of things being made in this day and age, it's designed for a sequel.

Someone told me, if you stayed at the end of the credits... there's an audio clip saying "It's alive!"

Dammit, not again! It was an interesting movie but I don't think it could use sequel.

no, it says something that sound roughly like "help us" reverse the audio clip, and then it says Its alive. :P

Of course they need a sequel, because nothing was resolved.
