Interestingly, I actually enjoyed AoE3 (even more than AoE2), but the whole thing felt more like a well done spinoff rather than a proper sequel.

Sanitarium was an awesome game. Well, at least it had an incredible beginning. I think the last levels and the ending blew balls, but I remember playing the chapter with the orphan kids and it was like WHOOOAAAH. Oka, not that much, but I deeply loved that one.

And Zeus, oh man, I fucking loved Zeus. It was one of my favorite city building games, along with Anno 1602. So many great memories summoning fucking Hercules for the first time and beating the fucking hydra that was eating my stadiums.
Speaking of which
ANNO 1602
I somehow managed to learn on my own how the game worked back then, without manuals nor guides and shit, and the game refused to tell you shit often. Okay, actually the UI was quite informative, which helped a lot.
Anyway, I loved how every new game was a new competition, and learned a fe eficient street layouts from the AI opponents. It was a simple, but quite well done sim.
FALLOUT 1 & 2
You can never go worng with the first two fallout brothers. I remember the demo for the first game was my introduction to western rpgs. The demo offered a custom Junktown (called scrapyard) where 3 gangs were in conflict, and you could choose to join either and find a diplomatic or brutal resolution. It was quite an insightful demo that showed much more about the game than what a simple portion could have done so.
As said, the demo showed me how incredibly could the wrpgs be in contrast to the stagnating (for me) jrpgs.
Planescape: Torment
At first there was smething that I didnt enjoy about the game, perhaps the waay bright BG gradients on the character portraits, and I felt the infinity engine overall ugliness didn't help. In fact I left the game collect dust, until I changed my mind like 6 months after. My God, the game had such a well done story, and the dialogue on the more profound arguments was great to read, specially the background of a few of your NPC companions.
Arcanum
This one is a rough gem. It has a reaaaaally dull start with the crash site and the Shrouded Hills. But when you finally manage to leave those, you get to explore a very fleshed out world. It is by the same creators of Fallout, and it shows with some awesome characters and narrative.
System Shock 2
While I always thougt the awesome techno music was somewhat out of place, the voice of the Many always freaked me out everytime one of them showed up.
Star Control 2/The Urquan Masters
A great game that is part ship sim, rpg, and arcade ship combat. The story was great, the universe fleshed out even better. I loved Fwiffo and the Pkunk, let not to say the whole Ur´Quan background.
