The fact that people don't properly cool their video cards isn't Blizzard's fault. I had the same issue, I cleaned me case, temperature reduced.
You forget to note that news is news, and news was good, so media bangs on Blizzard for people claiming SC2 is the source. Hardly any game limits framerates to 60. There's no reason to. But now that someone claims their video card died due to that, the media will use it as an excuse for news.
Ultimately, cleaning your case is key.

Re: Starcraft II goes Gold!
Theres actually a very large amount of games that limit the FPS to 60 or lower, why I have no idea.
The entire card frying lollery really just made all the cheap cards that they tried to market off with insufficient cooling stand out, not to mention the lack of a thermal shutdown when it does overheat. I'm pretty sure my 5870 was going into the 2k FPS range on the cinematic titles and UT2k4 did the same thing without any issues.
Video card's shouldn't be overheating without FurMark running which I don't recommend running on the 5k series because it will trigger a voltage(?) shutoff.

Whoa, a link spammer bothered to do tests on whether Mesk is a furry? *facepalm*I wasn't too sure back then but it does become more and more obvious to me after personal tests and such.
