Old School StarCraft

Post by AA7Dragoon »

A lot of you youngins weren't even born yet, but back in our day, we used to play the first StarCraft.  No, not the StarCraft you know from the 90's.  I'm talking about the StarCraft Blizzard released back in 1984.  Just to give you an example of the gameplay, click here:

Those were the days..

The map editor was in BASIC.  I mean literally.  If you didn't know BASIC, you no edit map.

I had a copy of the super editor.  It had more features than the BASIC editor, but it required you to write in FORTRAN.

It took me four million lines of BASIC to write in another square on the default map.

It really was all about a zealot rush.  The carriers were overpowered too because the battlecruisers kept autofiring on the interceptors.  There wasn't a targeted attack option back then.

Yes it did. I clearly remember my dad purchasing the game and system in 1989 because it had all gone on sale. I was late into StarCraft- Yes. I will always remember that intro music, though. I used to hit restart just to keep listening to it.

Okay, I get it now. But for a while, I thought it WAS real and that's what scares me.

I'll never believe anyone in my life again.

If you're wondering why it looks so good, it's because it's being ran on an emulator, otherwise the colors would be a lot more faded.
