THE THING - GAME ONE (FINISHED)

The game will start tomorrow once everyone has PM'ed me what roles they want to play.  They're first come first serve so PM me two roles in case the first one is taken.

Each day, you will post your actions in this topic and I'll tell you the results of your actions.  (The Thing will PM their actions to me obviously.)

For combat, it will likely be automatic to make it easier for you guys but it might be manual if we're all online at the same time.  The complete ruleset is here.

Note: For now, I've simplified the vital items, made it easier for The Thing to infect, and taken out day/night phases so the game runs easier.

It's another quiet and quaint day at the science station and since LAN parties haven't been invented yet, you're all either working or slacking off.  Suddenly, the eerie Antarctic calm is pierced by the subtle hover of a helicopter and then gunshots.

A lone German shepherd streaks into the camp with a helicopter fast on its heels.  A Norwegian scientist jumps off the helicopter ranting in an obviously crazed state and starts shooting at the dog, killing a random climatologist before FlyingHat manages to shoot him with his trusty pistol.

Suddenly, the helicopter explodes in a spectacular ball of flames and you are all left stunned or panicked.  After the dog has been safely put away in the dog wrangler's pen and fed, you all meet together on what to do.

The first day of....THE THING has begun...

No, don't worry.

Note: You will gain 1 Paranoia and 1 HP for the first day you go outside and 1 HP for each day afterwards.  However, you get +2 to your "Find Item" rolls if you choose to do that next turn.

Coming back inside does not cost you a turn but you have to tell me.

AA7Dragoon goes right to work repairing the radio and reports it'll be another 3 days before it's operational.

Thalraxal decides to go search for his trusty cigarettes but barely manages to find a four month old pack in the storeroom.  (Roll of 3 vs. DC of 1)

Lavarinth, the pilot, decides to go outside to see what can be scavenged.

Perhaps without surprise, the other pilot, Flyinghat dons a parka and decides to brave the howling South Pole winds too.

Tramau, disgusted by this fragmentation of the remaining inhabitants at the science station, searches for a flashlight and using his adept head biologist skills, finds one in perfect working condition.  (Roll of 6 vs. DC of 3)

Mucky, ever the doctor, figures it's a good time to stock up on a flashlight too.  Doctors, it seems, are incredibly adept at finding flashlights.  (Roll of 10 vs. DC of 3)

Meanwhile...unbenownst to the entire group, the German shepherd has quietly been walking around and in all the confusion, has quietly infected one of the humans.  The dog wrangler later finds the infected dog and kills it, but not before it morphs horribly killing the wrangler in an ironic display of horrible gore.

As the second day dawns, one of you has become...THE THING!

Also, the dog wrangler was an NPC but still has 4 dog "items" so you can loot his body if you can manage a roll against a DC of 9 not counting the rising paranoia.  Remember that except for weapons, ammunition, and armor, you must use a day action to use any item you find although I might change this later if it hurts the gameplay.

(Later on, I might also make a rule that if you roll really high versus a certain item, you will get 2 of it like rolling a Critical but for now, we'll keep it simple. )

Two questions.

1) For my special actions, if I'm targetting a player that went outside, do I need to be outside as well?

2) If a player's roll ties with the DC, is the DC considered beaten or not?

In any case, I'm going outside.

1) Yes, but he can always just come inside.  Coming inside doesn't cost an action but you have to announce it.

2) No, but might change to re-roll.
