The Mansion of Madness - More image intensive than your mom's myspace.

I showcased at one point, maybe on SA or just privately, a Neverwinter Nights: HoTU module I was working on a while ago. It was one of my more successful creations, but eventually collapsed due to limitations with spells and AI.

Before that, though, it did get quite a lot of recognition with its extensively chaotic and massive battles, articulated unit descriptions, and sheer inanity.

No surprise, then, when NWN2 came out, I was quick to discover what exactly had been improved or broken in the new game.

First off, the new editor is a hell of a lot more to take on. If I wasn't so strongly motivated, or stupid, I would have turned back on it like I did most of everything else I've done. However, I've been able to uncover some pretty cool powers of the editor, and with a half-day of monkeying around, made a pretty impressive start on the new, reincarnated Mansion of Madness campaign.

Keep in mind these screenshots suffer jpg compression, and it won't let me turn on environmental shadowing for some reason. I also don't have AA or AF turned on. I am also still messing with the area's bloom settings, sun positioning, and so on. Incidentally, MoM is now a LoL-oriented... abomination.

The Forest of Forestiness

The Field of Pines (Plus the Mansion of Madness itself, and the Red Sea)

An early attempt at the MoM entrence.

In the previous Mansion of Madness, you were introduced to the world by a fat old guy wearing a dress. Well, he's back, and while his graphic is still temporary and his hovel has just begun its road to merry inanity, he's there to look down your blouse once more.

About NWN2 itself - if you've been asking yourself what to get a hold of for the coming holidays, look no further than Obsidian's next masterpiece. The 1.03 patch introduced a huge amount of engine optimizations, bug fixes, and other such things. My only gripe with the game right now is half the females looking like dudes and the freaking securerom.

Incidentally, pines.

Here's a bit of messing with mobs I did, too. Scaling, tinting, and stuff. That's the dragon's default size. I can make it 10x as big.

edit - Stupid CC resizing the images. Turned them into links.

Lol. Securerom does suck though =(

A more indepth question I must ask is, well, is the NWN:2 Campaign truely an upgrade from NWN? I never found the NWN campaign that great, but it was done rather well for its time. HotU was nifty, but really it wasn't that cool (cept the lil forge at the end when you make your own overpowered wpns, but even then MEH). I honestly have a gripe with games that are too single-playered and don't have an amazing story. Single-player to me is all about story, since no matter how much replay value there is in it, not being able to play/compete with people on a balanced scale is garbage. I know RPing and such is a part of these types of games, but I'm simply not a RPer. However, I must say NWN series is good enough from a gaming POV to capture my interest, and the KotoR series (As amazing as Obsidian was, Bioware's original smoked KotoR 2 out of the water, and honestly obsidian is all about sidegrading/upgrading a product. The kreya talk was quite deep and how they set up the exiled/revan for KotoR 3 is amazing though, so props for that) was probably my favorite north american RPG. Sadly I'm a cheapass, so I really want alot of backing for NWN 2 if I'm going to get it.

Yeah, that sounds like me.

IMO? The campaign is average. It's story is kind of cliche, but it's not the constantly re-used garbage blizzard always pulls out of the recycled bin. The gameplay is an evolvement of NWN 1, and the entire thing seems quite inspired by the way BG2 told its story, and how it played. The voice acting is decent, the script is fairly well written, and nothing is really overdone. If you liked nwn1, you will like nwn2.
