League of Legends (DotA)

Post by Marco »

Apparantly some of the people behind the 'Defense of the Ancients' mod got hired to create something almost  creepily similar to WarCraft 3.

http://kotaku.com/5060234/warcraft-modd ... of-legends

It's nice to see modders from a community get hired.  Although I can't help wonder if its the original creator, or the guy who just took the idea and continued it.  Stylistically speaking, the game seems to follow WarCraft III a bit too close for comfort.  If I were Blizzard, I'd definitely be keeping my eyes on this one in a 'legal' sense.  Seems a hell of a lot too close to WarCraft, though I could be wrong.

And a LoL game based acronym - Doack might freak.

That's quite interesting- Although I don't think it'll last too long or make it big..

Those cocksucking pig-fucking gelatinous reject american pigdogs! Stealing my fucking acronyms for a ill-fated piss-incited ripoff of a game that isn't even that good to begin with!

No, it'll flop, and I'll dance on their fucking graves.

Also, DotA is anything but original. Aeon of Strife ring a bell?

Talk of Summoners remind me of the game Sacrifice, a great, original game. Anyone here ever play it?

Always wanted to play Sacrifice, it looked pretty cool.  But I could never find a copy of it :(

Honestly I didn't find it terribly interesting. I'm not sure how it got the M rating, either.

Wow that does look like WC3. As long as they don't use their textures and their engine, Blizzard has nothing on them though.

Everything is plagurised to some degree, it just comes down to whether it's "blatant" or "inspired" by something. In either case, you don't just copy something, do 0.1% of some work and sit back all  8) about it, there's still some degree of work involved.

It's like those nitwits who said they owned the original Harry Potter or even  Father Ted. Even if the other author DID copy them to some degree, the "copycat" still went on to produce a whole series of books\movies or TV series.

So good luck to them. I'm sure some people said Counter-strike would "flop" back in the day.

Erm... this is in no way similar to Counter-Strike at all, as far as I can tell.

This really... doesn't look interesting at all, to me.  Mostly because of how retarded dota is.  Don't get me wrong, I like to play dota from time to time, and it's fun... mostly.  But it has some ginormous flaws in the basic levels of gameplay, such as it sucking.

Also because the trailer is like "lol we have int, agi, and str heroes guys."

Ah, the memories. After three years, LoL has blossomed into quite the successful phenomenon. It's one of my wife's favorite games to play right now. Penny Arcade and Ctrl-Alt-Del are regularly talking about it. Who'da thunk it?
