Also, with regards to Diablo 3, there's a demon mini-boss at the start of Act 4 named, I shit you not, Iskatu.

Re: The "secret" Alpha for the upcoming Arcade

The banks failed to load for all players in the test.

Worth noting is the bank file size; at 1.15 MiB, more than two-thirds of it is XML markup. It would be prudent for users in need of saving large volumes of data to implement even rudimentary compression.

Re: The "secret" Alpha for the upcoming Arcade

Well, more like a beta than an alpha, at least according to the email I received. I'd consider the previous two weeks of testing the alpha. Seems odd there are two different emails circulating, but whatever.

I prefer group discussions; perhaps if I'm on again at some point, we could have a party of three or so. The advantage to group discussions is it allows more time to articulate questions and responses without the burden of silence.

Re: SC2 Mapping Sequence

Idea -> Discuss -> Prototype -> Project I go through a critical process, where I first try to determine if the idea is worth developing; if I discover an intractable problem at any phase in the process, I discard the idea. After contemplation, discussion with "dev buddies", and prototyping...

Re: SC:L Wings of Liberty Review

Command & Conquer has always failed at balance, and the narratives have always been campy. If you can enjoy The Rocky Horror Picture show, you probably won't be bothered by, say, the story in Tiberian Sun or Red Alert 2 and their almost-impossible-not-to-be deliberate silly presentation. Udo Kie...

Re: Podcast: Map Terraining

Yeah, playing an ogv on an actor is certainly still available, and syncing the sound just involves some arithmetic, an understanding of how the game handles time, and faerie dust. I might take a crack at writing a video script library, for fun. Perhaps the only mildly difficult part would be for tho...

Re: SC:L Wings of Liberty Review

I awarded the Worst Contemporary Narrative In A Game to Command & Conquer 4, awarded for retconning Tiberium's environmental devastation with an asspull technology, and ending the series and Kane's character with a big nothing.

Re: SC:L Wings of Liberty Review

(Copy-paste from a conversation I had earlier. Edited for clarity.) Ken: Well gameplay also factors into story elements, and the way I see it, it's usually a scale. Either you sacrifice gameplay to tell the story, or you have compelling gameplay where the story is only there to support the gameplay...

Re: SC:L Wings of Liberty Review

Thalraxal is trope savvy, haha. I'm inclined to agree about the moral event horizon crossed by both the Overmind and infested Kerrigan; even with an explanation that recontextualizes their actions as contributions to a "greater good", the actions and in turn the actors are not redeemed. My...

Re: A potencial method to have some custom non-static abilit

I concur with Xenon with regards to the use of items as custom picked abilities. Catalog approach may or may not be viable; in principle, it should work, but some things are simply locked out of catalog modification.

Someday I'll get around to adding an option that makes tiles on the board collapse to prevent people from stalling.
