LotC Update: Buildings

Permanent Linkby The Oracle on Mon Aug 23, 2010 7:03 pm

So the Confederation from Earth gets a full set of buildings and units to make it a fourth faction. Here's a few images of buildings at different stages of the build animations.

Legacy of the Confederation (First blog: 8/22/10)

Permanent Linkby The Oracle on Sun Aug 22, 2010 5:23 pm

10 years ago, I collaborated with fellow community member Joel Steudler to create "Legacy of the Confederation." A campaign based on a battle.net clan for the original StarCraft game. I'd never have thought at the time the campaign would survive long after the clan died off and disappeared.

Legacy of the Confederation (or "LoTC")'s story was penned after StarCraft and before Brood War. The concept was pretty simple; what would happen if earth came out to the Koprulu Sector and threw itself into the mix? Of course, with Brood War, the United Earth Directorate appeared. LotC incorporates all of the StarCraft canon elements for the first game so from there on, LotC became an 'Alternate Universe' timeline.

And now it's being rebuilt from the ground up for StarCraft 2. 45 missions, 13 hours of dialogue, more than 35 voice actors, all new splash screens (courtesy of Joel), all new music, and of course...new unit portraits and new units in-game.

It sounds like a pipe dream when written like that...but it's not. LotC is quite real. I've worked on it on and off since December 2007 in anticipation of SC2's release. With about 90% of all voice work done, music done, and the script long since finalized...all that's left are the graphics and the maps. (And figuring out how all those neat new goodies are to be imported into the game; that's something Blizzard hasn't released yet...the mod tools).

So welcome to the LotC campaign for StarCraft 2. Subscribe now and you'll be the first to hear the news and updates. For those of you who never saw the LotC forums, here are some sound samples and some new unit portrait graphics to kick things off. Talk to ya soon.
